EPIRB's (Emergy Position Indicating Radio Beacons)
There are currently two (2) types of distress beacon – analogue and digital. All over the world, people are making the switch to the new, digital 406MHz beacons. The older 121.5MHz and 243MHz analogue beacons will cease to be monitored by satellite on 1 February 2009, and will become obsolete.

Pukehina Buoy
This is a wave model that describes the sea state in the Bay of Plenty in near real time. The model runs automatically every three hours using wave and wind data provided by Marineweather.co.nz and data from the wave buoy. Model accuracy is very good in the vicinity of the wave buoy but reduces as distance from the buoy increases.

Tauranga Coastguard
Formed in 1986 by a group of boat owners and is affiliated to Coastguard New Zealand. It also houses the regional headquarters of the Coastguard NZ Eastern Region.
